Where to Shop for Clothes for Your Photo Session

I thought we could take a break from client posts this week and talk about WHERE TO SHOP!

This is always a difficult thing for me to tackle when it comes to my own family photos because I have this ideal in my head of what I want my family to look like and be wearing in the photos that I will have printed and hanging in my house, but never know where to look!

Never fear, I have a nice little compilation for you so that you have it all in one place :) Take your time going through them, because you may like some of the shops and you may hate some of them! We’re all so different and have different tastes, but hopefully there will be a couple things on this list that suit you well!

My little list here will have places to dress an entire family, but it’s totally still applicable for couples dressing for their engagement session as well!

For the women (moms, older daughters, lady fiancé):
Zoco
Roolee
Bohme
Alice Loves Clothes— (next-to wholesale prices, which makes it totally worth it, but you’ll have to plan pretty well in advance if you want your clothes in time for your photos! That’s just because of how they have to order clothes to keep their prices so low)
Mae Threads— (also next-to wholesale prices, so follow the same tips from Alice Loves Clothes!)
Shop Stevie
Called to Surf
Anthropologie
Asos
Ivy City Co (NOT cheap, but very pretty!)

For the kids and babies (boys and girls!):
Zara Kids (this link won’t take you directly to the kids shop, you’ll have to click around a bit to find that section!)
H&M
Rylee and Cru
Fin & Vince (on the expensive side, but very cute!)
Roolee Kids
Target (this link won’t take you directly to the kids shop, you’ll have to click around a bit to find that section!)
Old Navy (this link won’t take you directly to the kids shop, you’ll have to click around a bit to find that section!)
Joyfolie (this link won’t take you directly to the kids shop, you’ll have to click around a bit to find that section!)

For the men (dads, older sons, man fiancé):
(Also, sorry guys this list is so short. If you have another place you like to shop at, let me know and I’ll add it to the list!)
Old Navy (this link won’t take you directly to the kids shop, you’ll have to click around a bit to find that section!)
Als Sporting Goods
Pacsun (definitely avoid the graphic tees though for pictures!)
H&M
Amazon (just be SURE to read the reviews!)

I have an older blog post that I’ll link here that can help you decide what goes well together, but since it’s been a minute since I published that, I’m going to add a few new tips I’ve learned!
•Neutral and muted colors rule all. This rule will help you avoid skin reflections and give your photos that dreamy, light, and higher-end look that is so desirable! (I have some graphics at the bottom of this page to help you with color coordinating)
•Less than HALF of the people in your group should be in a pattern! If you feel like you need to switch things up between all your outfits, use texture to do that instead of more patterns! Include pieces with buttons or a unique stitching, or something linen or knit instead of your standard woven top.
•When including patterns, try to keep them very neutral with prints on the smaller side. It will surprise you how bold they will look when photographed. (Two patterns I immediately think of to never include are plaid and large polka dots)
•If you’re debating whether to go casual or dressy, I personally think that leaning toward the more dressy side is the way to go. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going out in a full suit and tie and sparkly-sequin dress, but casual dresses for the women and polos or casual button-ups for men ALWAYS make a good photo! All the girls can be in a dress if you want!

All of the images below were sourced from Collective Gen. This really is just a small sample of some good “neutral” color coordinations! If you want more options or you have a specific color in mind that you want to wear in your photos that isn’t included here, just go to Pinterest and search “neutral (your color of choice) color palette” and you’ll get so much more inspiration! (Example: “neutral purple color palette.” Or you could go more specific and search “neutral lilac color palette.”)

I hope these tips are helpful to you! Let me know in the comments below if there is somewhere else you love to shop and other clothing tips you have found useful!
